Other than the common cold, people will miss more work in the United States due to the effects of Low Back Pain. It often blows my mind how many people really suffer from this and the wide range in age that it occurs in. As a sports chiropractor who specializes in only athletes, it is really common to find out that many athletes really suffer from one of the many presentations of Low Back Pain.

See, often we think of Low Back Pain as a really Acute episode where a person cannot get out of bed or get off of the floor. Many times as health care professionals we often miss the true signs due to our professional training... See Medical Doctors are trained in surgery and drugs for the most part, Physical Therapist are trained to stretch muscles and rebuild the core of the body, Chiropractors are trained to adjust a bone and maybe some physical therapy type of training. Message Therapist, try to work the muscles to release the pain and are very effective at what they do. In fact, all of the above do a great job for how they are trained.

The problem with all of the above views is that all of them often miss the small things about back pain. All professions are trained alike, but we often forget the details about the body and its many ways it try to protect itself. See the body has this innate ability to know we have a problem before signs and symptoms of a problem show up. The first signs and symptoms are often missed because we think that our pain is due to DOMS, which means Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness. We as humans often think "No Pain, No Gain" and how false that statement is... As an active practitioner for the last two years, I have been tracking some pretty amazing things that these athletes state on their intake forms.

Most of them often talk about knee pain that is dull and diffuse right in the patella tendon and the knee capsule area. The medial side of the knee is the most common area due to the weight bearing property of the bones. In the exam, the patella tendon reflex is often diminished or not present at all. The achilles tendon reflex is in the same above mentioned state. These patients often mark on their intake forms that they have one sided hip pain on the front side, near the pocket area. These patients often tell me a history of trying all of the above professions to try to seek some relief. Many times we miss the mark for a really long time... Which now we are in our 40's and have really bad back pain with muscles spams that most pain pills will not help because it is a disc injury.

Disc injury's present in three major ways:
1) Compression
2) Motion Disorders
3) Combination Disorders

Let's see which one you may have??? Call (469) 232-2273
To be continued

About the Author: Dr. Kelly Ryder DC ART CCSP, is the founder of Texas SportsChiro Care in Dallas, Texas.
